Disc Golf with the Fam? Total Win.
Let’s face it—finding something everyone in the family enjoys is kinda rare. But disc golf? It's one of those things that somehow just works for all ages. You don’t need to be an athlete. You don’t need to spend a bunch of money. You just show up, grab a disc, and have fun.
Why It Works for Families
First off—it’s easy. You throw a disc, try to land it in the basket. That’s the whole idea. Kids get it fast. Grown-ups get into it. No one’s standing around waiting their turn for too long.
And it’s cheap. Like, really cheap. Most courses are free. A starter set of discs doesn’t cost much at all. You could spend more at the movies in one night than you’ll spend playing disc golf for months.
Plus, it gets everybody outside. No screens. Just walking, talking, and chucking discs around a park. You’re moving without even thinking about it. The kids don’t even notice they’re getting exercise. (And let’s be real—neither do the adults.)
Also—you don’t have to be good to have fun. Some throws are wild. Some go straight into a tree. Some somehow bounce toward the basket. That’s half the fun.
A Few Tips for Playing with Kids
-
Don’t play all 18 holes. Five or six is plenty when you’re starting out.
-
Get light discs. Kid-freindly. Makes a huge difference.
-
Let them make up rules. “Throw it backwards!” “Spin before you throw!” Whatever keeps them laughing.
-
Cheer for everything. Even a disc that goes the wrong way deserves a high-five.
-
Pack snacks and water. Always. Trust us on this one.
Where to Play
Not all courses are family-friendly, so look for ones that are short and open. Parks are your best bet. Wide fairways, easy walking, room to goof off a little. Check UDisc to find one near you—that app’s a lifesaver.
More Than a Game
Yeah, it’s a sport, technically. But really, it’s about hanging out. You walk and talk. You cheer each other on. You laugh when someone accidentally hits a trash can. It’s just a good time.
And hey, if it becomes your new Sunday routine? Even better.
Try It Out
Get a couple of beginner discs, find a nearby course, and just go. Doesn’t matter if you’re good. Doesn’t matter if you keep score. Just toss, walk, laugh, repeat.
See you out there.
