Discraft Plastics Guide: How ESP, Z, and Titanium Change Your Buzzz

Discraft Plastics Breakdown: Buzzz in ESP, Elite Z, and Titanium

If you’ve ever picked up a Discraft Buzzz, you probably know how sweet it feels in the hand—but not all Buzzzes are made the same. One of the most common questions I get at our shops (Disc Nation - South Austin near Mary Moore Searight DGC or Disc Nation - North by Wells Branch DGC) is: “What’s the difference between ESP, Z, and Titanium plastic?”

Well, I’ve thrown the Buzzz for almost two decades now, and I’ve tried just about every plastic they’ve made. Here’s my take on how they fly and feel. This ain't a science project—just the honest truth from a person who's been chucking discs since the early 2000s.

First, a Quick Look at the Buzzz Flight Numbers

Speed: 5 | Glide: 4 | Turn: -1 | Fade: 1

The Buzzz is famous for doing what you tell it to. Smooth, straight flights when you throw it clean. Hyzer lines? Easy. Little turnover? You got it. That’s why so many of us carry more than one—it’s reliable and versatile, just like duct tape in your bag.

ESP Plastic – My Go-To for Feel and Grip

  • How it feels: Kinda gummy but still firm. Just the right amount of tackiness when it’s hot or humid (which, let’s be honest, is every dang day in Austin).
  • How it flies: ESP tends to start off a little straighter than Z or Titanium. After a few tree kisses, it beats in nice and gets more workable. You’ll see more turn if you’ve got a little snap.
  • Best for: Everyday players who want a disc that seasons well and feels great in hand. If I had to bag just one Buzzz (don’t make me), it’d be ESP.

Z Plastic – Tough as Texas Cedar

  • How it feels: Pretty slick. Super durable. It’s that clear, glossy stuff that looks fancy but doesn’t beat in fast.
  • How it flies: The Z Buzzz holds its shape longer than the others. It stays stable for a long time, even if you’re clanking trees at Mary Moore or Wells Branch.
  • Best for: Players who want consistency and long-term use. Great for summer rounds when your hands get sweaty. I use my Z Buzzz for straight shots into the wind.

Titanium (Ti) Plastic – The Fancy Pants One

  • How it feels: Pretty firm, with a slight texture to it. Kinda in between ESP and Z, with a bit of shimmer that makes it stand out.
  • How it flies: Titanium flies most like Z for me—stable and dependable. But it can feel heavier in the hand even if it’s the same weight. It’s like it carries momentum differently, if that makes sense.
  • Best for: Folks who like premium feel and want something unique. Also good if you’re looking for a slightly different grip from your other plastics.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, there’s no wrong choice—it all comes down to how you throw and what you like. I’ve got an ESP for woods, a Z for windy days, and a beat-up Ti for long turnovers. That’s the beauty of disc golf—you can mix and match until it feels just right.

If you’re curious, swing by one of our shops. We’ve always got a stack of Buzzzes in every plastic. And if you’ve got questions, just ask. I love talking discs (probably too much).

Until next time—keep it in the fairway, y’all.
